Newcastle want to bring former Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby back to the Premier League, according to the Mirror.

The news outlet have detailed on their transfer blog (Friday, 11.33am) that the Magpies are keen to sign the 26-year-old attacking midfielder alongside Premier League rivals Bournemouth.

The technically gifted attacker has had a commendable career to date, playing three times for the senior Germany national team, while also once being thought of as a bright prospect when breaking through at Schalke.

This saw him make a switch to the English top-flight with Tottenham in the summer of 2013 for a fee of £1.5million, but after 42 appearances for Spurs, including a loan move to Fulham he returned to Germany with Hamburg for a fee of £4.6million in July 2015.

Holtby has since remained in Hamburg, making 90 appearances in total with a return of four goals and two assists and last season alone he played in 30 matches in all competitions, scoring once, while turning provider on six occasions.

But, with his contract set to expire next summer it is detailed by the Mirror that Holtby could be available for around £5million, which would certainly fall in line with Newcastle’s current budget restraints.
