Portuguese ace Pedro Moutinho claims Rangers’ new signing Bruno Alves is the ideal player to get the best out of the incoming Fabio Cardoso.

This comes after the Daily Record reported that Cardoso, 23, and Dalcio, 21, are set to undergo medicals at Auchenhowie on Monday ahead of their respective moves to the Glasgow giants.

It is said Cardoso is set to become manager Pedro Caixinha’s next summer signing after a £1.3million fee has been agreed with Vitoria de Setubal, while Dalcio will make a season-long loan switch from Benfica.

Rangers also completed the signing of veteran centre-back Alves from Cagliari last week as he became the first arrival of the transfer window.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, former Falkirk player Moutinho has been blown away by the Rangers overhaul and claimed Alves is the perfect man to mentor the 23-year-old centre-back.

He said: “This is a wise move from Caixinha. I can’t see how this partnership won’t work.

“You have Alves with all his experience and he will be a great leader for the Rangers team. He is a fantastic signing.

“Cardoso is a lot younger and still has much to learn, but who better than Alves to help him do that?

“Caixinha is clever. He wanted a new defence and it’s not by accident that he’s about to sign two Portuguese players in that area.

“There is a big age gap between them but I think their individual strengths will work perfectly as a partnership.”

Cardoso only joined Vitoria from Benfica B last summer, but he quickly became a key player for them, making 27 appearances in all competitions this term.

The four-time Portugal Under-20s international slotted into the side’s heart of defence, and helped them to a 12th-place finish in the Primeira Liga.

Meanwhile Dalcio currently plies his trade for Benfica B, and he made 33 league and cup appearances for the side this term.

Caixinha has already brought two new faces to Ibrox this summer, in Alves and Ryan Jack, but his business is by no means done as he looks to completely overhaul his squad.
