Leeds United will complete the signing of Huesca forward Samu Saiz by the end of next week, according to a reliable journalist from his homeland.

Broadcaster Jorge Puyuelo, who specialises in covering Huesca for Aragon TV, reported on Tuesday night that the English giants are set to be successful in their pursuit of the Spanish playmaker.

Puyuelo’s update comes amid reports in Yorkshire that Leeds’ bid to sign Saiz, 26, has hit a stumbling block.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay claimed on his personal Twitter account that United’s attempt to land the Real Madrid academy product from second-tier club Huesca has got “quite complicated seemingly”.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo reported on Monday night that Leeds had tabled a £3.1million bid for Saiz to blow Spanish trio Alaves, Malaga and Eibar out of the water in the race for the player.

It was also said that United had trumped even top-tier Eibar, who finished 10th in La Liga last season, by offering Saiz a contract worth £18,000-a-week, which had persuaded him to snub Spanish offers and move to England.

Puyuelo, who is a Huesca expert, is confident the deal will eventually go through and, in conversation with Leeds fans on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday, raved about the calibre of the 26-year-old.

He described Saiz as “the best player in the second division of Spain” and far ahead of his teammates in terms of ability.

Saiz, who can play in the playmaker, right-wing or central striker positions, was unable to make the breakthrough at Spanish giants Real but has carved out a fine career in the lower leagues.

He scored 12 goals and supplied eight assists in 40 league appearances for Huesca in the recently completed season as they finished sixth and in the play-off spots.

Saiz is out of contract at the La Liga 2 outfit in 12 months and is widely expected to secure a transfer this summer rather than leave on a free in 12 months’ time.
