Leeds United are not in discussions with Derby County over a potential summer move for goalscorer Chris Martin, according to a reliable journalist.

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon claimed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday that “no move” had been made by Leeds for the 28-year-old, despite their recent flurry of transfer activity.

Nixon was responding to a request from a Leeds fan to clarify the club’s alleged interest in the Derby striker, and the request was met with a brief, yet emphatic response.

Martin has spent the majority of his professional career playing in the Championship, having joined Derby from Norwich City in 2013, and a proven performer could be the catalyst Leeds need for their promotion challenge.

He has scored 80 goals and supplied 34 assists from 254 appearances throughout his prolonged stay in England’s second-tier, and spent the 2016-17 season on loan at rivals Fulham.

The 13-time Scotland international continued his prolific form during his time at Craven Cottage, netting 11 goals from 34 appearances in all competitions.

He is currently under contract at Derby until 2020 after signing a new deal in January, and the prospect of another summer move, particularly to Leeds, now appears off the table.

Leeds are likely to enter the transfer market in the coming months to bolster their attacking ranks and ease the goalscoring burden off the shoulders of current star Chris Wood.

The New Zealand hitman scored an impressive 30 goals in all competitions for Leeds last season, but has had little support from his team-mates in front of goal.

But Nixon suggests a potential move to bring Martin to Elland Road is nothing but speculation.
