Leeds United are weighing up a deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic on loan this summer, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported on his personal website on Wednesday morning that Leeds had joined the race to sign the 22-year-old ahead of the 2017-18 season.

The two-time Croatia international moved to Chelsea from his homeland in 2014, but has yet to make a first-team appearance for the club, spending the majority of his spell on loan at other clubs.

Pasalic returns to the Premier League champions this summer after completing a season-long loan spell at AC Milan, where he netted an impressive five goals and one assist from 24 Serie A appearances.

However, Pasalic is set to be shipped out on loan once again next season despite plans to be handed a new contract by Chelsea, and Leeds are one of several potential suitors.

The Championship side will rival Italian giants AC Milan and Lazio for his signature in the coming months, while La Liga outfit Valencia are also considering a move.

Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen has wasted little time identifying several potential new recruits to his side following his arrival at Elland Road a fortnight ago.

He has already secured the signing of Polish midfielder Mateusz Klich, but a potential move for Pasalic suggests Christiansen is not yet satisfied with his midfield options.

Pasalic has also spent time on loan at Elche and AS Monaco.
