Leeds United have not made contact with ex-Newcastle manager Alan Pardew over the vacant managerial position, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post chief football writer Phil Hay revealed on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday in an exchange with a supporter that he had been told by someone close to Pardew that “no contact” had yet been made by Leeds.

Pardew, who has been without a job following his dismissal from Premier League outfit Crystal Palace in December 2016, is just one of a host of experienced names linked with the Leeds vacancy.

The Championship club are on the hunt for new leadership after Monk resigned from his post as manager on May 25, following just one year in charge at Elland Road.

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani, meanwhile, revealed on Twitter on Tuesday that the club will be “meeting with candidates this week” as they aim to secure a new man for the dugout.

Radrizzani’s revelation suggests that Leeds’ managerial pursuit is at last gathering pace, and that a new manager could be potentially be in place well-ahead of the new season.

There have been major changes off the field at Elland Road since the club ended the season in seventh place following a final-month collapse.

In addition to Monk’s exit, Massimo Cellino stepped aside after Radrizzani bought out his stake to take sole ownership, Spaniard Victor Orta has been appointed director of football and it was announced on Wednesday that Under-23s coach Jason Blunt has left.
