Leeds United may need to offer just £3million to land Bologna defender Filip Helander this summer, according to a reliable journalist.

BBC Sport reporter Adam Pope claimed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday evening that the Serie A club are often willing to listen to offers between just £3million and £4million for their players.

Pope did also add that he had been told Bologna manager Roberto Donadoni is a fan of the Swedish international centre-back, but reiterated that he could be available for purchase this summer.

That should suit Leeds, after a report by Goal claimed earlier on Thursday that the Championship club had lodged a bid worth £3.5million for the services of the 24-year-old.

Helander made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Italian side during the 2016-17 season, having joined the club on a permanent basis from Hellas Verona just six months ago.

He saw regular opportunities in the first-team squad limited due to no fewer than three separate injury setbacks, but his lack of regular action has not deterred Leeds from a potential summer move.

Manager Thomas Christiansen is after a new centre-back to partner Pontus Jansson at Elland Road next season, and Helander has been identified as a suitable candidate.

Helander already boasts a strong relationship with the current Leeds star, having played alongside him for both Malmo, and for the Sweden international side earlier in his career.

The Goal report also details that Helander would be open to a move to the Yorkshire-based club, despite only sealing a move to Bologna earlier this year.

But the latest update from Pope suggests Leeds can land themselves another signing on the cheap this summer, having already snapped up FC Twente midfielder Matesuz Klich on a three-year deal.
