Brighton and Hove Albion defender Vegard Forren has refused to rule out a possible summer move to Aston Villa, according to eurosport.no.

The 29-year-old endured a frustrating few months with the Seagulls after signing on a free in March, and is set to leave the club this summer.

Villa tried to sign Forren in January of this year before he signed for Brighton, and the player has poured fuel on the speculation linking him with the club in an interview with the Norwegian sports news outlet.

Speaking to eurosport.no when asked about Aston Villa, he said: “I wish and hope that the situation around the new club are resolved within a few weeks time.”

However, the 29-year-old’s agent, Jim Solbakken, refused to comment on the speculation.

Forren failed to make a single appearance for Brighton in the second half of the 2016/17 campaign, and he only played one game for the Under-23s.

The 29-year-old also disappointed in his previous stint in England, when he spent six months at Southampton in 2013 without featuring for the first team.

However, the Norwegian centre-back has impressed in his homeland, playing almost 300 league and cup games for Molde in two separate spells at the club.

He is also experienced on the international stage, having been capped 33 times by Norway, but he has not featured since the 2-1 World Cup qualifying loss to Czech Republic last year.
