Goalkeeper Aidan McAdams has agreed to join Rangers after Celtic agreed to sell to their Old Firm rivals, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claimed on their transfer centre blog on Thursday (9.05pm) that Rangers have already tied down the shot-stopper, 18, to a contract.

Sky Sports report that McAdams will cross the Old Firm divide for an initial fee of £55,000 rising to a potential £175,000.

The teenager has reportedly decided to make what is a controversial and rare move after failing to break into the first team at Parkhead.

Highly-rated McAdams has been at Celtic since the age of eight and his potential is evident from the fact he has represented Scotland at Under-16 and Under-17 level.

The keeper was a mainstay of the national team at last year’s Under-17s European Championship finals as well as the Victory Shield the season before.

Rangers have won the race to sign him after he struggled to find a way past the senior goalkeepers at Celtic, including number one Craig Gordon and his deputy Dorus De Vries.

Gordon signed a new contract last season but has been criticised for some of his performances, including for Scotland in their 2-2 World Cup qualifier draw against England last weekend.
