Celtic are set to lose out to English Championship side Wolves in the race to sign Konyaspor left-back Barry Douglas, according to the Express and Star.

The regional newspaper claim that Wolves are on the verge of signing the Scottish defender, 27, for a fee of around £1million.

The Express and Star report that the final details of the move are being ironed and it is expected that the deal will be announced by the end of this week.

It is said that Celtic are now out of the running to sign the Glasgow-born player, who has been in Turkey since January 2016 after making the move across from Polish side Lech Poznan.

The former Dundee United player has spurned the opportunity to return to Scotland and the lure of the Champions League for what is a more lucrative package and the chance to push for promotion to the Premier League.

The Scotsman has previously played in the Scottish Premiership, amassing 61 appearances across a three-year spell between 2010 and 2013 with Dundee United.

He was hit by a series of injuries last season and managed just 22 appearances for Konyaspor in the Turkish top flight.

However, Douglas has two years remaining on his contract at the club and it appears they are ready to cash in on him this summer.

Celtic currently have teenage sensation Kieran Tierney as their first choice left-back, while the more experienced Emilio Izaguirre is currently the senior back-up.
