Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is interested in signing Middlesbrough striker Viktor Fischer this summer, according to a Northern Echo report.

The newspaper claims the Northern Irish boss has been keen on the 22-year-old in the past, and could see him as a good addition to the Hoops’ squad.

The Northern Echo report that Rodgers kept an eye on the Boro flop during his younger days and has tracked him for years.

It is said the Bhoys do not have a wealth of funds to spend on the Danish striker, but they could launch a bid of around the £3.8million fee which Boro paid for him last summer.

He joined the Riverside club prior to the start of the 2016/17 campaign from Ajax, but he has failed to impress.

The 22-year-old was used sparingly by manager Aitor Karanka, only making 13 Premier League appearances, without scoring a goal.

Fischer had been regarded as one of Denmark’s hottest young talents while he was at Ajax, but that reputation has suffered since he moved to England and he may be interested in making a move in a bid to repair it.

In the 2015/16 season he managed to bag eight goals in 28 league and cup appearances for the Dutch giants.

The 22-year-old featured for all of Denmark’s age-group teams in his youth, and he has successfully made the jump into the senior squad too, making 15 appearances, scoring three goals.

His last goal for his nation came in their 5-0 friendly win over Liechtenstein in August of last year.
