Aberdeen attacking midfielder Jonny Hayes would be the perfect addition to Celtic’s squad this summer.

Not only will the assist king instantly strengthen Brendan Rodgers’ team but his ability to hurt opposition defences can make them a genuine threat in the Champions League group stages.

Cardiff City have reportedly dropped out of the race to sign the Republic of Ireland international meaning that Celtic are free to swoop in on the Dons’ number 11, according to a report on the Sky Sports official website.

Sky Sports also claim that Celtic have already tabled a bid of around £1million for the star.

Sealing the deal with the Aberdeen star would be a wise move for Rodgers, as Hayes caused a potential threat to the Bhoys’ win in the Scottish Cup Final when he scored the opening goal of the match and led the Dons 1-0 up after just nine minutes.

Last season Aberdeen fell 30 points short of the treble winners in the Scottish Premiership rankings which saw the Dons scoop second place in the table, and no doubt Hayes will want to join a club who win trophies.

Bringing the Irish midfielder would add an extra element of strength for Rodgers’ side and provide the Scottish giants with even more options.

Last season, the 29-year-old made 44 appearances for his club making a staggering 24 assists, and these skills would be heavily valued at a winning club.

In addition to his impressive assists, the Irishman also netted 11 goals for his side.

Making the swoop would show that the Celts are able to poach fellow Scottish teams’ most valuable players and allow the Hoops to look even stronger as they head to retain their Invincibles title.
