Sutton: Rodgers must improve goalkeeping at Celtic

|

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has said that Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers must look at improving his goalkeeping options this summer.

The pundit voiced his thoughts after current number one Craig Gordon delivered what he claimed was a “poor” performance for Scotland in their 2-2 draw with England on Saturday.

The 34-year-old failed to save an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s opener, an effort which he would have been expected to stop, and then was unable to deny Harry Kane’s late equaliser, with several pundits suggesting he should have come out to stop the cross.

Sutton, who played 140 times for the Hoops, was one of those who questioned the goalkeeper’s performance, and he took to his personal Twitter account to voice his concerns over the quality of goalkeeper at Rodgers’ disposal at Celtic.

His tweet reads: “Craig Gordon poor for both goals… Goalkeeper still a position Brendan Rodgers must look at IMO…”

Last season Gordon made 35 league appearances for the Hoops last season, conceding 21 goals.

Rodgers’ other options between the sticks at Celtic Park besides the Scotland international are former Swansea City man Dorus de Vries, Belgian stopper Logan Bailey and Italian Leo Fasan.

Only 23-year-old Fasan is under the age of 30 out of the options available, so the Northern Irish manager may be looking to invest in a future goalkeeper rather than an immediate replacement for Gordon.
