Chris Sutton has heavily criticised Rangers chairman Dave King and claimed that “he has been childish” after the latter stated that Celtic have not won six back-to-back league titles.

King recently stated that Celtic do not deserve the credit for clinching six consecutive Scottish Premier League titles as they won the first four when Rangers were competing in the lower leagues.

This is not the first time that the Rangers chairman has hit out against the Old Firm rivals as King was quoted in the Daily Record as saying that Celtic should be progressing further as a football club.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Chris Sutton has hit out at King for his recent comments and believes that he has disrespected the integrity of the Scottish game.

“Celtic have won six in a row so far and have deserved to do so – just as Rangers deserved to win their nine in a row,” he said.

“To suggest anything otherwise is to behave like an infant. He has been childish. He needs to grow up and stop coming out with rubbish like he has.

“The basis of King’s comments are basically that if Rangers aren’t involved in a competition, it doesn’t count.

“That is simply ridiculous and a slight on every single other person in the game in Scotland.”

Sutton is not the only person to come out and publicly criticise the Rangers chairman as Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths was quoted in the Scottish Sun as saying that King’s recent jibes against the SPL champions were simply “ludicrous”.

King has backed manager Pedro Caixinha in this summer transfer window in order to close the gap on their Old Firm rivals as Rangers have already made a total of eight new signings.

Rangers will start the SPL campaign with an away trip to Motherwell in August.
