Rangers have completed the signing of Benfica attacker Daniel Candeias, it has been confirmed.

The Scottish club announced on their official club Twitter account on Sunday afternoon that the 29-year-old winger had put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal at Ibrox.

Candeias becomes the fifth summer signing for Rangers, as manager Pedro Caixinha continues his overhaul of the first-team squad, with Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack, Dalcio and Fabio Cardoso already confirmed additions.

But the latest new arrival also completes the second summer deal between Rangers and Portuguese giants Benfica, as Caixinha seeks to prioritise trusted players from his home nation.

The club’s acquisition of attacker Dalcio on a season-long loan was the first successful business deal reached between the two clubs earlier this month.

But the move for Candeias is also significant, as the former Portugal youth international had previously worked under Caixinha at Nacional, where he made 85 appearances during a four-year spell at the club.

The versatile winger, who is adept on either flank, contributed four goals and four assists during a season-long loan at Turkish outfit Alanyaspor last season, after being discarded by Benfica.

Since joining the club in 2014, Candeias failed to register a single senior appearance for Benfica, but can start afresh under his former chief at Rangers for the 2017-18 season.

He could be handed his first appearance for the club at the end of the month when Rangers begin their Europa League qualification campaign, following their third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership last term.
