Rangers have announced that Mark Allen will become the club’s new director of football after quitting as Manchester City’s academy director.

The Ibrox side confirmed that the 54-year-old would be taking on the role on their official website, as well as releasing the news on their official Twitter account.

The former City man takes on the newly established role at the Glasgow based side following a restructure at the club after the departure of former boss Mark Warburton and chief talent spotter Frank McParland back in February.

He will officially join manager Pedro Caixinha and his team at Rangers from the start of July, having spent just over seven years working for the Sky Blues in the North West of England, and he spoke of his excitement to begin work at the Scottish giants.

He told the club’s official website: “The time was right for me to look for a fresh challenge and I am joining one of the world’s truly great football clubs.”

Boss Caixinha has already begun an overhaul of the playing staff at Ibrox, bringing in no less than six new signings, the most recent being Columbian striker Alfredo Morelos.

However, it appears that the board will be looking for the Portuguese coach and new arrival Allen to work together in identifying first team quality talent, after former boss Warburton was heavily criticised for his recruitment during his tenure in charge.
