Rangers new arrival Dalcio has admitted he couldn’t resist a summer move to Ibrox because of the club’s history and “amazing fans”.

The 21-year-old became the third signing of the Pedro Caixinha era, and the third signing of the summer for the Scottish club, when his transfer was confirmed on Tuesday.

Rangers had announced on their official website on Tuesday afternoon that Dalcio had signed from Portuguese giants Benfica on a season-long loan, and follows the arrivals of Bruno Alves and Ryan Jack at Ibrox.

But Dalcio has immediately declared his intention to help Rangers break the dominance of rivals Celtic in Scottish football, with their Old Firm rivals having won their sixth successive league title last season.

Meanwhile, the Portuguese attacker also revealed that he was attracted to a move to Glasgow for a number of reasons, including the fans, the history of the club, and the influence of the manager.

He told the Daily Record: “What attracted me to Rangers was the history of the club, the size of the club and, mainly, the amazing fans. The stadium is just beautiful and the facilities are also fantastic.

“The manager was also a real influence on me. I know he is really competitive and ambitious and that was the reason I wanted to join him.

“On the personal side, the manager has said he is here to help and improve me. I am a little bit anxious. It is a new team with new team-mates but I believe everything will run well.”

Dalcio scored one goal and supplied three assists from 33 appearances for Benfica’s B side last season, where he featured mostly as a right-winger.

However, he can also be deployed as an attacking-midfielder or in a deeper central role, which will offer Caixinha a variety of options.

Two further transfers are expected to follow Dalcio in the coming days, with Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera facing work-permit clearances before completing their moves to Ibrox.

The Daily Record claim the work permit appeals will go before a three-man tribunal on Wednesday, and a decision could be made almost immediately.
