Confirmed: Halliday makes Ibrox departure

|

Rangers have confirmed that midfielder Andy Halliday has joined Gabala on a season-long loan deal.

Gers announced Halliday’s year-long departure from the Ibrox on the club’s official Twitter account and website on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old midfielder is set to join the Azerbaijan club after Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha told the Scotsman that he wasn’t part of his plans for the squad for the 2017/18 season.

Just days after the Scotsman had been ordered to train with the development squad by the manager, the club confirmed he had agreed to a season-long loan deal.

The midfielder is set to face Rangers with his new club in the Europa League qualifiers this summer.

Halliday joined his boyhood club from Bradford City in July 2015, and was a regular first-team player throughout his first two seasons at the club.

Since moving to the Ibrox the 25-year-old has scored a total amount of 15 goals and provided eight assists during his 90 appearances for the club, but the midfielder is now surplus to Caixinha’s requirements.

The Rangers manager has already made an impact on the current squad and appears to be making way in the team for the eight new additions he has recruited, which the Portuguese manager hopes will be enough to compete with domestic treble winners Celtic.
