Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha believes his side need to show more aggression in the attacking third next season.

The 46-year-old chief arrived at Ibrox in March, but could do little to prevent the Scottish club for enduring a limp finish to the league campaign which saw them end 39 points adrift of champions Celtic in third-place.

He inherited a side from his predecessor Mark Warburton riddled with errors and inexperience, and the Portuguese has taken it upon himself to bring about the required changes at the club this summer.

Caixinha has already snapped up five new players, and with more expected to follow in the coming weeks, he has sought improvements to make amends in particular for a lack of aggression in his attack.

He told the Rangers official club website: “I think we need more width in the last third, and we need more aggression that part of the pitch.

“We need to be more aggressive attacking full-backs, attacking spaces, arrivals, having associations with the strikers and to put more crosses in.

“That is what we are looking to have in our attacking side.”

Kenny Miller, 37, finished as Rangers’ top goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership last season with just 11 goals, but Caixinha is set to have a number of fresh goalscoring options up his sleeve next term.

Rangers have already completed the signing of two new forward players to increase the supply and goalscoring threat from the wider areas, with Caixinha raiding his home nation for Benfica duo Dalcio and Daniel Candeias.

Meanwhile, he could be set to add a new prolific centre-forward to his ranks in HJK Helsinki goalscorer Alfredo Morelos.

The Express claimed on Monday that the 20-year-old striker, who scored 21 goals last season, is set to undergo a medical in Glasgow ahead of his proposed move to the club.

The two clubs are understood to have agreed a £1million fee for his services, and Morelos will sign a three-year contract, subject to a work permit and his medical.
