Scott Sinclair has stated that Celtic’s new signing Jonny Hayes is a “good” player and the club “trusts” manager, Brendan Rodgers, to bring in the right people.

Playmaker Hayes made a switch from Derek McIness’ Aberdeen to the Scottish champions earlier on this month where he became the Hoops’ first signing of the summer.

Celtic won the domestic treble during the recently concluded campaign, so it wasn’t a surprise to see their players dominate the Team of the Year and individual accolades.

However, playmaker Hayes was the only non-Celtic player on the shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award and Sinclair believes that shows the quality of player the club’s new signing is.

“Jonny Hayes is a good player,” said Sinclair, as quoted by the Scotsman. “All the players trust the manager to bring in the players he believes should be added to the squad and his arrival is great for competition.

When asked if Hayes was the best player in Scotland last season bar the Celtic players, Sinclair issued this response:

“Well, he made it into the top four of the PFA Scotland Player of the Year nominations, so he must have been.”

During his time at Aberdeen, Hayes played 32 league matches for his side, scoring nine goals and supplying 19 assists.

As a result, his team secured the runners-up spot in the SPL table, finishing nine points ahead of Glasgow giants Rangers.

Added with that, Hayes also helped his team reach the two Cup finals where they were beaten by Celtic on both occasions.

By contrast, Celtic ace Sinclair, who moved to Parkhead from Midlands outfit Aston Villa last summer, scored 25 goals and supplied 11 assists from his 50 matches which saw his win the Scottish PFA Player of the Year award.

Now, it is likely that both attackers, who like to play out wide, will operate on the wings for Rodgers ahead of the forthcoming season.
