Griffiths sends Twitter message after scoring for Scotland

Celtic ace Leigh Griffiths has stated on Twitter that his second goal for Scotland is a moment he will never forget.

The 26-year-old striker scored a brace for his home country as they recorded a 2-2 draw against England on Saturday during a World Cup qualifier at Hampden.

Gareth Southgate’s side were leading the contest 1-0 when Griffiths struck two incredible free kicks late into the second half to give his side a remarkable lead.

However, Tottenham forward Harry Kane equalised in stoppage time to the heartache of the home supporters and the jubilation of the away fans.

Prior to the game, Griffiths had not scored for Scotland but when he was reflecting back on his second goal, this was the response from the Celtic man.

“A moment I will never forget,” Griffiths wrote on his personal Twitter account when responding to a clip of his second goal. “The commentary gives me shivers, the roar is incredible.”

Edinborough-born Griffiths has represented his home country on 13 occasions, with the two strikes against the old enemy being the only goals he has scored for the Scots.

Despite the late heartache, Gordon Strachan’s men picked up a valuable point in their race to reach the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

At this moment in time, England top Group F where they have recorded 14 points from their six matches, with four wins and two draws to their name.

Scotland are sitting fourth in the group on eight points from their six encounters, four points behind second-placed Slovakia and six points behind their neighbours.
