Celtic should make an eleventh-hour bid for Manchester United ace Sam Johnstone as Middlesbrough reportedly close in on the goalkeeper.

The Sun revealed in an exclusive that newly-appointed Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk is closing in on making Johnstone his first senior signing at the Riverside Stadium for a fee of £2.5million.

Middlesbrough are looking to add the former Preston, Aston Villa and Doncaster loanee after losing Brad Guzan and Victor Valdes following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

However, Brendan Rodgers is set to have money to spend after Celtic’s exploits in the Champions League last season and bringing Johnstone to Glasgow should be high on his agenda.
