La Liga champions Real Madrid are interested in signing Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, according to the player’s agent.

This follows up from the story in the Daily Mail which reported that negotiations between the Premier League champions and the 25-year-old over a new contract at Stamford Bridge have stalled.

The Belgian was instrumental in helping Chelsea clinch their second Premier League title in three seasons, contributing with 17 clean sheets in 32 matches in all competitions.

Courtois’ agent Christophe Henrotay, as quoted in the Telegraph, reveals that he has held discussions with Madrid representatives about the Belgian goalkeeper but he failed to mention whether the player himself is interested in a move away from London.

“Of course Thibaut is of interest to the big clubs, including the latest Champions League winner,” he said.

“He’s someone who helps you win games, titles. I meet regularly those in charge at Real Madrid, and Thibaut’s case has come up.

“My role is to keep him updated on the situation.”

Courtois has already experienced playing in Spain as he spent three seasons on loan to La Liga side Atletico Madrid.

The Belgian became an important part of Diego Simeone’s side and he played an essential role in guiding Atletico to Copa del Rey success as they beat Real Madrid 2-1 in the 2013 final at the Bernabeu.

The following season, Courtois produced some sensational performances as he kept 28 clean sheets in 40 matches in all competitions, which helped guide Atletico to their first La Liga title for eighteen years.

The Belgian’s current contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2019.
