Stuart Armstrong keen on new deal at Celtic

Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has expressed his desire to remain at the club for the foreseeable future and claimed that he is prepared to reopen discussions over a new contract.

The 25-year-old has proven to be an essential member of the Celtic squad since moving from Dundee United in 2015 and fans at the club will be delighted with the news.

The midfielder’s contract at Celtic Park expires at the end of next season and manager Brendan Rodgers has made it a summer priority to keep Armstrong at the club.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Scotland international reveals that contract talks had been put on hold until the end of the season but he expects everything to be finalised very shortly.

“That was something we talked about and decided to leave until the season was finished – then we could pick it up again,” he said.

We’ll take care of that soon. You know, you can never put a time limit on these things. I’ve said that before. These things usually take care of themselves.”

When asked whether he would like to remain at the club, Armstrong stated: “Yeah, I think it’s the happiest I’ve been in my footballing career. And I think that is showing on the park, as well.

“I’m very happy, playing well, playing probably the best football of my life. So it’s all good.”

Armstrong was instrumental for the Hoops last season as he made a total of 47 appearances in all competitions and contributed with 17 goals and seven assists.

The midfielder’s outstanding performances helped Celtic complete a memorable treble in Brendan Rodgers’ first season in charge at the club and they remained unbeaten throughout the domestic campaign.

The Scotland international was one of three Celtic players to be shortlisted for the Scottish Premiership PFA Player of the Year award.

Armstrong featured for the Scotland national team in the World Cup qualifying 2-2 draw against England last weekend.
