Former Dundee United manager Miku Paatelainen believes goalscorer Alfredo Morelos can be an “invaluable” addition for Rangers.

The Scottish Sun claimed on Friday morning that Rangers had agreed a fee worth £1million to bring HJK Helsinki goalscorer Morelos to Ibrox this summer.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is considering multiple new additions to his squad as he seeks to continue his overhaul of the first-team squad, having already signed four new players.

Morelos, 20, could be the latest name arriving through the door at the Scottish club, and ex-Finland international Paatelainen is confident that the Colombian goalscorer can hit the ground running.

He told the Scottish Sun: “He is a goalscorer, but he is also a creator of goals too. He’s done really well here. His stats for last season were incredible, 30 goals in something like 40 games.

“He has the nickname ‘Goaleador’ which says it all I think. I cannot say he will be a hit in Scotland, you can never say that about anyone.

“He is a goalscorer, though. Give him a chance and he will score goals. Those players are hard to come by, invaluable.”

Morelos netted 21 goals from 25 appearances in all competitions for HJK last season, including four goals from six games in the Europa League.

But Caixinha is seeking a move to bring the striker to Ibrox to aid his own side’s European campaign, which is set to begin later this month.

The Portuguese has already added two central defenders, a central midfielder and a winger to his ranks this summer, with Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Ryan Jack and Dalcio the confirmed arrivals.

However, with 37-year-old Kenny Miller proving the most prolific goalscorer currently within the Rangers camp, Caixinha is determined to add more firepower this summer.

Any potential move to Rangers, however, will be subject to work permit clearances, as the youngster has yet to make his senior international debut for Colombia.
