West Ham are edging ever closer to a deal for 20-year-old KAS Eupen sensatiin Henry Onyekuru, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report on their website that the Hammers have convinced the youngster to dismiss the interest of London rivals Arsenal, who had reportedly agreed a £6.85million deal with Eupen, and move to East London this summer.

The report claims that Slaven Bilic’s side have offered Onyekuru wages of £35,000-a-week, while the final transfer deal looks set to be in excess of £7million.

The winger, who scored 25 goals and contributed 14 assists for his club last season, is expected to fly in for a medical on Tuesday 13 June if talks between the two clubs proceed as planned.

He also made his international debut for Nigeria at the start of June, coming off the bench in the 58th minute in a 3-0 friendly victory over Togo.

Following the proposed medical, West Ham will have to apply for a work permit for the young winger, with proof having to be shown to demonstrate that he is an elite talent.

Arsenal are one of a number of top flight clubs who the Hammers have fought off for the Belgian’s signing, including German giants Borussia Dortmund and Champions League semi-finalists Monaco.
