Haris Vuckic has taken to Twitter to post an emotional message to the Newcastle fans after leaving the club for FC Twente.

Twente confirmed the signing of the 24-year-old midfielder from the Magpies on their official website on Friday morning.

Vuckic has joined the Dutch outfit on a free transfer and he put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract.

He then wrote a message on his personal Twitter account on Saturday evening, which read: “Thank you for everything @NUFC. Toon army will always have a special place in my [heart].”

Vuckic joined the Toon in January 2009 from Slovenian club NK Domzale for £85,000, but he failed to make much of an impact.

He only managed to make 19 appearances across all competitions during his eight years in the North East, and he scored just one goal.

The 24-year-old was farmed out on loan for much of his Magpies career, which saw him play for the likes of Cardiff, Rotherham, Wigan and Bradford City, as well as Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

The attacking midfielder was one of four senior players who Newcastle announced at the start of June that they would be releasing, alongside Vurnon Anita, Sammy Ameobi and Lubomir Satka.

Vuckic has been capped on one occasion by Slovenia, as he played in the 1-1 friendly draw with Scotland way back in 2012, but he has not featured for his nation since.
