Tottenham have shown interest in Borussia Dortmund defender Matthias Ginter by scouting the player whilst he was on international duty, according to a report in the London Evening Standard.

The newspaper claims that Spurs scouts watched the 23-year-old in action for Germany during their 1-1 draw against Denmark on Wednesday.

It is said Ginter earns less than £30,000-a-week at Dortmund and the £17.5million-rated player is well within Tottenham’s budget.

Versatile defender Ginter was part of the Dortmund team that finished the recent Bundesliga campaign in third place behind surprise packages RB Leipzig and champions Bayern Munich.

The report details how Ginter, who is aware of the interest in him, is considering a move abroad which has encouraged Tottenham.

Ginter has two years remaining on his current contract at the Westfalenstadion Stadium and can play at either centre-back or right-back.

The likes of Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier played in those roles for Pochettino this term, helping Spurs record the best defensive record in the league.

The north London outfit, who finished the Premier League campaign as runners-up behind Chelsea, conceded only 26 goals from their 38 matches.

On the other hand, Ginter played 29 league games for Dortmund, helping them record eight clean sheets, mainly as a centre-back but at times he was utilised on the right-hand side of the defence.
