Tottenham have made an approach to sign Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, according to Vital Spurs.

The Tottenham fans site claim that the London giants have launched a bid to sign the centre-back by making an enquiry for his services.

Vital Spurs report that Spurs have let their interest be known in Sakho but have stopped short of making a formal bid.

The Express report that Liverpool have set a £30million valuation on the France international even though he did not play a single match for the first team last season.

Spurs’ reported approach is a shock given that the club have a wealth of central defensive options, including Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier, and a limited transfer budget to their stadium move.

Manager Jurgen Klopp deemed Sakho surplus to requirements after a series of disciplinary issues and he joined Crystal Palace on loan in January.

The 28-times France international made a big impact at Palace and was key to the club avoiding relegation from the Premier League under former manager Sam Allardyce.

The Selhurst Park club were interested in signing Sakho permanently but have since been priced out of a move.

“I think that is going to be a very difficult one for us to do,” chairman Steve Parish told the London Evening Standard. “I think Liverpool want a big number for him. That is a tough one to make happen on a permanent basis.

“We need to look at the budgets and be realistic.”

Sakho joined Liverpool from Paris Saint-Germain for £17million in the summer of 2013 and has a contract at Anfield that runs until 2020.
