Tottenham have held talks with the agent of Fiorentina midfielder Matias Vecino over a potential summer move, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Italian football news website claims that Spurs have been in touch with representatives of the 25-year-old as they look to secure a replacement for Manchester United target Eric Dier.

The Telegraph claim that Spurs have set a £50million price tag on the 23-year-old England international’s head, with United circling.

The newspaper also claims that Jose Mourinho’s side are willing to tempt the versatile defensive midfielder to Old Trafford with a £150,000-a-week contract, and it appears that Tottenham have begun preparing for life after Dier, with Fiorentina man Vecino a top target.

The midfielder, who can operate both offensively and defensively in the middle of the park, is a 13-time-capped Uruguay international, having made his debut in March 2016.

The 25-year-old played an important role in helping Fiorentina reach an eighth placed finish in Serie A as well as the Round of 32 stage of the Europa League, as he made 40 appearances across all competitions and chipped in with four goals and four assists.

He signed for La Viola in the summer of 2013 from Uruguayan side Nacional, and has gone on to make 58 appearances for the Italian side, having spent time on loan at Cagliari and Empoli.
