Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wants four new signings in place before the summer transfer window shuts at the start of September.

The Mail claim the Portugese has “prioritised” a quartet of major arrivals in the coming months as he aims to strengthen a squad that can challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Mourinho’s first campaign at the Old Trafford helm secured two trophies, the League Cup and the Europa League, which ensured that United will compete in next season’s Champions League despite finishing outside of the top four.

But the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss knows that it was underwhelming for United to finish sixth in his first season and a distant 24 points adrift of Antonio Conte’s champions.

Mourinho has admitted that he departed for his summer holidays after handing club vice-chairman Ed Woodward a list of the players he wants signed by the end of the summer.
