Tottenham have reportedly made Porto right-back Ricardo Pereira their first choice target to replace Kyle Walker this summer – and fans are convinced he would be a top signing.

Sky Sports News claim that Spurs are tracking Pereira, 23, and Portugese publication Sabado report that manager Mauricio Pochettino has closely followed the 23-year-old for the last two years and has identified him as his number one target to replace Manchester City-bound Walker.

Sky claim on their website that Spurs want to “move some players out” before activating plans to strengthen Pochettino’s first-team squad.

The strong link to Pereira has met with the support of Tottenham fans on social media, with many claiming he would be a top-class replacement for Walker were he to leave.

This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets:

Pereira has played only 34 matches for Porto but made a big impact during his two seasons on loan at Nice in 2015-16 and 2016-17, establishing himself as a mainstay of the team.

Like Walker, Pereira is renowned for his great athleticism and speed, which make him a major attacking threat on the right flank from his defensive position.

Walker, who moved to White Hart Lane from boyhood club Sheffield United in 2009, lost his regular Spurs starting place at the end of 2016-17 as speculation intensified about his future and his form dipped.

Nevertheless, the England international was named by his peers in the PFA Premier League team of the season and is widely regarded as one of Europe’s outstanding right-backs.

It has been reported that City manager Pep Guardiola has identified him as a priority summer signing.
