Tottenham are considering making a move for Tenerife’s 21-year-old goalkeeper Carlos Abad this summer, according to Marca.

The Spanish sports newspaper claim on their website that Abad, who turns 22 on Wednesday, is a potential target for Mauricio Pochettino, who has chosen not to turn loan keeper Pau Lopez’s loan deal into a permanent one.

Spanish born Abad has found himself in a similar situation to Lopez, after Real Madrid chose not to activate a £2.6million (€3million) clause after spending two seasons on loan at the Spanish giants’ reserve team, Real Madrid Castilla.

He made 27 appearances for the third tier Spanish side, conceding 34 goals and keeping six clean sheets on the way to an 11th placed finish.

Meanwhile he has just nine second tier appearances for his parent side, although he kept a clean sheet in five of those matches.

Tottenham currently have French international and club captain Hugo Lloris and Dutch stopper Michel Vorm as their top two goalkeepers, with Lopez having played the role of understudy during his time on loan.

However, with Lopez’s departure and Vorm’s contract set to expire next summer, boss Pochettino is likely to be looking for a capable young stopper who will be able to offer quality backup before staking a claim for the first team in the years to come.
