Sherwood: King is the man Spurs need to swoop for

|

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood says that Bournemouth’s Joshua King is the striker the club should target in their hunt for a centre forward this summer.

The 25-year-old Norwegian forward hit 16 goals in 36 appearances for the Cherries last season, helping them achieve a club record ninth place in the Premier League last season.

His impressive form has seen him linked with a move away from the Vitality Stadium this summer, with Tottenham rumoured to be one of the clubs interested in securing his signature.

In an interview with the Bournemouth Echo, King admitted that the links to Tottenham “intrigued” him, and now former Spurs boss Sherwood says he is the man to help fire the North London side to success.

The current director of football at Swindon Town told talkSPORT: “Josh King has got loads to offer.

“He runs in behind, he holds it up, he is strong, he is still developing and he would be a perfect player for the Tottenham squad.”

Spurs currently have Harry Kane and Vincent Janssen available as their central strikers, with fellow forward Son Heung-Min set to miss at least four weeks of action after requiring surgery on a broken arm, as reported by Yonhap News Agency.

With Kane firmly positioned as Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice up front, Sherwood believes the 28-time-capped Norway international would be the ideal understudy for the England hot shot.

“They can’t buy one (a striker) who expects to be first choice because Harry (Kane) will obviously be first choice,” Sherwood told talkSPORT.

“He (King) would get plenty of games – they are in the Champions League this year as well.”

Spurs will be hoping for an improvement in Europe next season, having dropped out of the Champions League group stages into the Europa League last season, where they were beaten by Belgian side Gent in the Round of 32.
