Rachel Riley has quit her role as a Sky Sports presenter after Tottenham complained about a comment she made about the club, according to a report in the Times.

Riley was fronting Sky’s Friday Night Football alongside Jeff Stelling when she labelled Spurs as “proper bottle jobs” after they were beaten 1-0 at West Ham on May 5.

At that time, Mauricio Pochettino’s side were hoping to close the gap on eventual winners Chelsea in the title race, but just like the previous season, they fell at the final hurdle.

The following week, she was dropped for Sky’s biggest match of the season which saw Chelsea clinch the title at West Brom, with Stelling being the sole presenter at the Hawthorns.

The report details that Riley received “hideous personal abuse” on Twitter after that comment and, despite Sky offering her a new 12-month contract, she has decided to leave her post.

It is further reported that Spurs officials did complain about Riley’s remarks but she did not mean to offend the White Hart Lane faithful.

During her time at Sky, Riley also co-presented the broadcasters Fantasy Football club alongside Max Rushden and former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson, and will no longer be hosting that programme either.

The report also details that Stelling, who is the face of the popular Sky show Soccer Saturday, has also left his role as presenter of Friday Night Football.
