Scott Parker is in talks with his ex-club Tottenham about joining their coaching staff, according to the Mail.

The newspaper claim the 36-year-old has been speaking to Spurs “for some time” about a possible role as an academy coach as he looks to start off the path to a career in management.

The Mail report that Parker has completed some of his coaching badges under the instruction of long-running Tottenham academy chief John McDermott and worked with some of the club’s emerging players before he moved to Fulham in 2013.

It is said that Spurs are “hopeful” they can come to an agreement with the highly regarded former England international although he has other options on the table.

The central midfielder announced on Wednesday that he is retiring from football after 20 years at the top level of the game.

Parker has decided to hang up his boots after losing his regular starting place at Fulham in the recent domestic season, in which they pushed strongly for promotion following a storming finish to the campaign but lost out to Reading at the play-off semi-final stage.

He is fondly remembered at Tottenham for his two-year spell there in which he made 63 appearances from 2011 to 2013 and also had lengthy stints at West Ham, Newcastle, Chelsea and Charlton, where he began his career.

Parker was also capped 18 times by England and was a key member of their Euro 2012 squad, playing alongside Steven Gerrard in central midfield.
