Gary Neville has hit out on Twitter at TV presenters after Rachel Riley quit her Sky Sports role following her “bottle job” comments about Tottenham.
The Times have reported that Riley has declined a new 12-month contract with Sky following a backlash from her comments after Spurs suffered a 1-0 defeat against West Ham on May 5.
Riley made the remarks while co-presenting Friday Night Football alongside Jeff Stelling, with her comments resulting in Spurs officials making a complaint.
Former Manchester United defender Neville, who is a well-known pundit for the popular broadcasters, believes Riley’s so-called jibe was a “nothing comment” and the response from fans was “scandalous”.
The report detailed how Riley received “hideous” abuse on Twitter for her comment and that she had no intentions of offending the club’s fans.
This is how Neville responded on his personal Twitter account to the Time’s story about Riley.
“A scandalous response to a nothing comment,” said Neville. “Not helped by other presenters in the TV world sticking the knife in.”

At the time of Riley’s comments, Tottenham were hoping to catch Chelsea in the Premier League title race, with their London rivals going on to clinch the crown against West Brom on May 12.
As a result of Riley leaving Sky, she has left behind a high-profile job with the Countdown presenter fronting two programmes during her time at the company.
She was co-presenting Fantasy Football alongside Max Rushden and former Arsenal player Paul Merson, including the Friday Night Football show from Sky’s west London studios.
