Harry Kane has admitted he sees himself as “one of the leaders” in the England squad as he explained how the Tottenham players are helping one another out for the national team.

Kane, 23, spent last weekend on a Royal Marines training camp with the rest of the Three Lions squad as manager Gareth Southgate looked to put them through their paces.

In an interview with Sky Sports News ahead of England’s World Cup qualifier against Scotland on Saturday, the Spurs striker even hinted that he wants the captaincy.

He said: “I see myself as one of the leaders now in the team and I’m looking forward to it.

“I’m only 23 but I feel that there are a lot of younger players in the team compared to me and I have a good relationship with them.

“I have a good relationship with all the players – the older, the younger – and there are quite a few Spurs boys in there as well.

“It helps as we play with each other, train with each other day-in, day-out, so we know each other very well on the pitch, but off the pitch also.

“If someone is feeling a bit down, or if they’re not quite right then we are there to know that and help them out.”

Kane has been capped 17 times by England, and has scored five goals, but he is yet to feature for the side this year.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a fantastic 2016-17 season with Spurs, and he scored 29 goals in 30 Premier League games.

Since breaking into Tottenham’s senior squad in 2014 he has been a revelation and has bagged a phenomenal 99 goals in 165 league and cup games.

Southgate will hope Kane carries his fine form from the 2016/17 campaign into England’s summer fixtures.

When they met Scotland last November the Three Lions came away with a convincing 3-0 win at Wembley, as Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill all found the net.

England will hope for a similar result at Hampden Park, and a win would see them continue their unbeaten run in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and extend their lead at the top of Group F.
