Tottenham icon David Ginola has said that the club need to keep hold of striker Harry Kane if they are to have any chance of securing the Premier League title.

The 23-year-old striker was in imperious form last season, hitting 29 goals in 30 top-flight appearances on the way to securing the golden boot, as well as helping his side finish as runners-up to champions Chelsea.

His form has drawn attention from the likes of Manchester United, with the Mirror claiming that Reds boss Jose Mourinho has urged his side to make a £100million move for the England forward.

However, the Independent report that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has slapped a £200million price tag on the 19-time-capped international in a bid to ward off potential suitors.

Former Spurs midfielder David Ginola, who made 100 appearances for the Lilywhites, says that Kane is crucial to their future title hopes, and urged the club to hang on to him.

He told talkSPORT: “Spurs need Harry Kane to stay if they are to win the Premier League next season.

“They need to keep their best assets if they want to win anything in the next few years.”

On the topic of the potential £100million move from United, Ginola claimed that if fellow Premier League striker Romelu Lukaku, who hit 25 goals for Everton last season, is worth that amount, then Kane should at least be within the same bracket.

“When you think about strikers who can regularly score 20-25 league goals per season, you need to put the money on the table,” the 50-year-old told talkSPORT.

“If Lukaku cost around £100m, I think it would be similar for Kane.”

Having signed for Tottenham as a 16-year-old back in 2009, Kane has gone on to score 78 goals in 113 appearances for the club, including over 20 goals in each of the last three Premier League seasons.
