Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has urged the club to pay whatever it takes to land Tottenham star Harry Kane, instead of re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the Mirror.
The newspaper claim that Mourinho wants his Old Trafford chiefs to make a £100million bid for Kane, an offer which their Premier League rivals will find it difficult to refuse.
Kane, 23, was in stunning form for Tottenham during the 2016-17 season, scoring an impressive 35 goals from 38 appearances in all competitions, including five hat-tricks.
His remarkable goalscoring exploits saw him retain the Premier League Golden Boot Award, finishing a third successive league campaign with more than 20 league goals to his name.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for a new goalscorer this summer, following their decision to let the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic leave the club upon the expiry of his contract.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has been keen to strike a £100million-plus deal for Real Madrid goalscorer Ronaldo, after the former United man vowed to quit the Bernabeu.
The four-time Ballon d’Or winner previously worked alongside Mourinho in Spain, but while Ronaldo appears keen on a reunion at Old Trafford, Mourinho has set his sights elsewhere.
Mourinho has instead urged Woodward to focus his efforts on signing Tottenham’s Kane, whilst also pursuing a £60million deal for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.
Tottenham will be reluctant to listen to offers for their most prized asset, but even a deal as high as £100million could be considered an attractive proposition for chairman Daniel Levy.
