Denmark manager Age Hareide believes Christian Eriksen would become a better player if he decided to leave Tottenham and join Barcelona.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claimed on Wednesday that the 25-year-old is reportedly interesting Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window, after starring in the final third for Spurs this season.

Questioned on the reported interest, Hareide told Danish outlet BT that his playmaker would be a better player among the likes of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Neymar.

However, Hareide believes Eriksen still has something to achieve with Tottenham in the Premier League and believes any decision will be a difficult one.

“Christian is not just a Barcelona player – he is a fantastic footballer,” Hareide said. “With better players around, he will just be even better. I am completely convinced. More smarter players around him will benefit a player like Christian.

“He is also held in high regard by Tottenham, where he knows what he must do. So it’s hard.”

Eriksen is currently with Hareide’s squad on international duty with Denmark, as he looks to add to his 67 national team caps with appearances against Kazakhstan on Saturday in a 2018 World Cup qualifier.

This season, Spurs’ number 23 has had a hand in 35 goals this season in just 48 league and cup appearances, scoring 12 times as the north London outfit finished in second in the Premier League behind Chelsea.

Mauricio Pochettino is in danger of losing his best players this summer with a number of them reportedly interesting other sides.

The Argentine manager will be desperate to keep hold of Eriksen, with three years remaining on his current deal at Spurs as it remains to be seen if Erneste Valverde’s new side will make an offer for the former Ajax man.
