Former Tottenham front man Jermain Defoe has told that he knew current star Harry Kane would be a success from an early age.

The 23-year-old broke onto the scene for Spurs as he started in a Europa League clash against Hearts in 2011 following a loan move to League One side Leyton Orient the prior campaign.

He then made three further loan moves to each of Millwall and Leicester in the Championship as well as a switch to Norwich in the Premier League where he failed to find a goal in five appearances for the Canaries.

He has since however excelled with Tottenham and he has won the Premier League’s golden boot on two separate occasions with a return of 99 goals in 165 appearances in total for the north London club.

Now, Defoe, who boasted a similar goal return while with Spurs has told that he was telling people how good Kane was at an early age, while he also highlighted that his fellow England international is still “so young.”

“It’s not easy to score goals in the Premier League,” said Defoe, as quoted by the official Tottenham website.

“The league is so strong, home and away, so to score three 20s on the trot…I just think he’s in the perfect team, no team is going to create more chances and dominate games like Spurs.

“If there is one team to be at right now, it’s Spurs and with ‘H’, I said ages ago he was a finisher.

“I said to the guys how good he was and if he got the chance, he would score goals. I’m not surprised with how well he’s done. That team creates chances and give him a chance and he’ll score.

“That hard work has got him to where’s got so far, sheer hard work, just wanting to score goals, that’s someone who just loves to score goals.

“That’s just in you, and you keep practising and then in a game, it comes naturally and that’s why he scores so many goals.

“He’s strong, he’s big, H. He’s grown a lot! I never had that height! For someone that size, his balance…a lot of the time you see him and he’s got the ball, holding defenders off and he looks off balance but they still can’t get the ball off him because he’s so strong.

“After all that, he always gets his shots off, all dfferent angles and always hits the target. That’s what they say about him, he always hits the target, both feet as well.

“He’s so young as well! I can’t see anything else but him just continuing to score goals for Spurs.”

Kane struck a stunning 29 goals in 30 Premier League appearances for Tottenham in the last campaign with an ankle injury only preventing him from scoring more.

He will now be looking for a similar return in the next campaign as he looks to help Spurs win their first ever Premier League title.
