Celtic are set to sign Ipswich Town midfielder Kundai Benyu on a permanent deal, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that the highly-rated 19-year-old was attracting interest from English sides Tottenham, West Ham United and Aston Villa but the Scottish Premier League champions have won the race to land the midfielder.

The report claims that the Championship side wanted the teenager to sign a long-term deal at Portman Road but he is out of contract with the club on June 30 and a tribunal is expected to set the compensation fee.

It is understood that the Hoops will not have to pay a huge amount of money as the midfielder is crossing the border to be involved with the Celtic squad.

Benyu reportedly fell out with manager Mick McCarthy over his behaviour and although both men managed to resolve their differences, it appears that it was not sufficient enough to keep the player at the club.

The midfielder moved to National League side Aldershot Town on a loan deal in December and his contribution helped the team reach the playoff stage where they were defeated by Tranmere Rovers in a two-legged tie.

Benyu produced some impressive performances, scoring five goals and providing three assists in all competitions.
