Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will continue to try and sign Fabinho from Monaco even after he has completed a deal with Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, according to a report in the Independent.

The Independent claims that the former Chelsea manager is keen to keep improving his squad for United’s 2017/18 campaign.

It is said that Fabinho is still considered as valuable to the Red Devils squad and Mourinho will aim to use the Brazilian’s versatility to play him elsewhere in the team.

While at Monaco, the 23-year-old has performed at right-back, and the report claims that Mourinho will consider him for that position at Old Trafford.

Antonio Valencia was the right-back of choice last season and Mourinho sees Fabinho as an upgrade who will offer a lot to the squad with his versatility.

The report revealed that Matic is likely to be United’s next confirmed recruit for around £35 million, after the club had already confirmed Benefica defender Victor Lindelof’s arrival earlier in the month.

The 28-year-old’s potential arrival would see the him reunited with his old manager, as Mourinho brought the Serbian to Stamford Bridge back in January 2014.

Under Mourinho’s leadership Matic was part of the squad who won the Premier League title, and the Portuguese boss looks to replicate the triumph at Old Trafford.

Matic recently won his second Premier League title after he made a key contribution to Chelsea’s 2016/17 season where he scored one goal and provided eight assists throughout his 35 appearances in the competition.
