North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are set to battle it out to land Charlton Athletic defender Ezri Konsa during the summer transfer window, according to the Express.

The newspaper reported on their live transfer blog on Sunday (13:00) that the Premier League sides are interested in signing the 19-year-old.

The report claims that Charlton want to keep the teenager at the club next season in order for him to get more experience under his belt before a potential move away to a top-flight team.

Konsa was part of the England Under-20 national team who won the World Cup in South Korea this summer.

The defender only featured in one match throughout the tournament when he came on as a late substitute in England’s 3-1 victory over Italy in the semi-final.

The teenager has spent his entire career with the League One side and he managed to break into the first-team last season, making a total of 39 appearances in all competitions, keeping seven clean sheets in the process.

The Addicks struggled to mount a serious promotion push last season and ended the campaign in 13th place, finishing 13 points adrift of the final playoff spot.

With Konsa a regular in the defensive set-up, Charlton managed to boast one of the best defensive records in the league as they only conceded 53 goals in the entire league campaign.

The teenager is a very versatile player as he is comfortable playing as a centre-back and right full-back and he was also as a central midfielder for a number of matches last season.

Konsa’s current contract at the Valley runs out in the summer of 2020.
