Vurnon Anita’s contract situation
Holland international Anita is expected to leave Newcastle in the coming days with his contract on Tyneside set to expire in less than a week’s time.
Benitez’s first-choice right-back for much of the campaign, Anita starred for the Toon during his 31 league and cup appearances and will feel aggrieved to not have earned a new deal despite more than deserving one.
Bringing Varela to the Magpies will more than replace Anita, and the former Penarol star would prove huge competition to USA international DeAndre Yedlin for a place at right-back.
