Benitez could sort out a cut-price deal for the 24-year-old right-sided defender as he has just 12 months remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford.
With Jose Mourinho’s side showing no signs of looking to extend his deal, United could be willing to offload the defender in the upcoming summer transfer window rather than risk losing him on a free next summer.
That would see Benitez keep a hold of the majority of his transfer window budget afforded to him by owner Mike Ashley, allowing him to spend money on other areas of the squad.
