Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has revealed that his club are hoping to beat Newcastle and Brighton to the signature of Tammy Abraham.

The 19-year-old Chelsea striker is regarded as one of the top prospects coming through the English system after he scored 26 goals in all competitions for Bristol City last season.

Abraham netted 23 of those goals in the Championship which helped the Robins survive relegation under the stewardship of Lee Johnson.

As a result, a number of clubs in the top tier are looking to sign the highly-rated teenager this summer, with Swansea also entering their name into the hat.

“Tammy does not have Premier League experience, but we are interested,” Jenkins told BBC Wales Sport.

“Paul knows him from Chelsea. If you look at the options which have been publicised, (they are) Brighton, Newcastle and ourselves, so it is left to Tammy and his family to decide where he wants to go next.”

Swansea boss Paul Clement has previously worked at Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in a number two role before he took charge of the Welsh outfit in January.

At that time, the Swans were sitting in the relegation zone and heading towards the second tier of English football before he helped them survive relegation.

By contrast, Newcastle and Brighton finished in the Championship top two to earn their place in next season’s Premier League.

Abraham has represented his parent club on only two occasions and it is highly likely that he will struggle to break into Antonio Conte’s side after their title triumph.
