Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand, according to a Sky Sports News report.

The broadcaster claim that City want Bertrand after being priced out of a move for Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy, who has a £40million asking price.

Sky Sports News report that the Manchester club have already agreed “some aspects of the deal” to sign Bertrand.

The former Chelsea defender had a fine season for Saints, who finished eighth in the table, where he made 34 appearances for his club across all competitions.

Bertrand contributed to keeping 14 clean sheets for his team during the Premier League season, while scoring two goals and providing five assists.

If the Saints star were to make the move up north, then he would reportedly earn twice as much more than his current £55,000 a week wage.

Manchester City has currently made one signing during the summer transfer window, after securing Monaco midfielder Bernardo Silva at the end of May.

City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to strengthen his options at full-back following the departures of veterans Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy, and Bacary Sagna.
