Premier League side Everton are currently the favourites to sign Burnley defender Michael Keane in the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports News HQ.

The broadcaster claim on their website that the Merseyside club have made the 24-year-old their number one defensive target this summer as manager Ronald Koeman looks to bring in new faces in defence for next season.

Sky Sports report that Everton have not made an official offer for the England international and they face competition from fellow Premier League side Manchester United to land the defender this summer.

Koeman reportedly wanted to sign Keane during the January transfer window but he claimed that he was not a priority at the time.

The English defender was an absolute stalwart for Burnley in his first full season competing in the Premier League.

Keane made a total of 35 starts in the English top flight last season, helping the Clarets keep 10 clean sheets.

The youngster also found himself on the scoresheet during Burnley’s 2-0 victory over Watford in Septemeber and the draw against relegated Hull City in February.

Keane played an instrumental role in helping Burnley survive in the Premier League for the first time in their history, securing a 16th place finish.

The defender’s contract expires at the club expires at the end of next season so the Toffees would not necessarily have to spend big money in order to acquire his services this summer.
